CHAPTER 02
Narrative and advertising brief
This is the compact view of the project brief and canon. Maintain one brief ID/version; expand it in place when more detail is needed, rather than filling two independent briefs. Record project ID, version, creator, date and current decision owner. Unknowns remain explicit. This brief records intent, not authorization to generate or publish.
Common brief
- Audience and intended response:
- Film type: narrative / advertisement / informational / abstract / other.
- One-sentence promise; intended feeling and distinctive point of view:
- Runtime range, destination, format, deadline:
- Binding constraints and references versus inspiration:
- Source assets, creators, permission status and intended use:
- Budget ceiling, authorized tools/attempts and protected editing/delivery reserve:
- Approval envelope: autonomous decisions, allowed tools/models, cumulative spend/attempt limits, material-change review and final release owner:
- Success evidence and unacceptable outcomes:
Narrative branch
- Who wants what, and why now?
- What obstacle and private pressure shape their visible behaviour?
- What is said versus meant? What can performance or silence carry?
- Which choice changes another person's options, and at what cost?
- How does each key relationship change from scene to scene?
- What does the audience understand before and after the ending?
- What establishes this film's voice rather than a generic genre imitation?
Advertising branch
- Whose concrete problem are we showing?
- What product capability resolves it, and how can we demonstrate that honestly?
- Which claims have evidence? Link the source and mark limitations or unknowns.
- Is each screen/result actual, illustrative or a prototype? Label accordingly.
- What is the promise, proof sequence and single next action?
- What must remain readable/heard: product identity, qualification, offer and call to action?
For abstract/informational work, replace character or sales requirements with the intended progression of attention, information or feeling. Record why irrelevant fields do not apply.
Ready decision
Record brief version, owner, date, remaining unknowns and evidence. Unresolved claims/permissions block their affected use, not unrelated planning. Changes produce an impact list for affected scenes, references and reviews.
